Is a 12 Amp Vacuum the Most Powerful?

With 4 small children, 6 beds, 3 sofas, and a half dozen carpets, I need a vacuum cleaner with serious power. So all I need is a 12 amp vacuum cleaner...right? While it may be the highest number available, find out what the number of amps really means to the power of your vacuum cleaner.
