Eureka Optima Vacuum Cleaner Review

Friday June 10, 2005
Eureka OptimaI have a real problem with some vacuum cleaners that weigh a ton, but I need real power. Sure a hand vac may be convenient to store, but is it going to pick up an entire box of crushed graham crackers? Eureka thinks they've combined compact with powerful. The Eureka Optima has the power of a full-sized upright, with a lot of features you'll want to have.

I am a Single Man living in an Apartment. After many years… my old trusted heavy Hoover bit the dust. I thought, now’s the time to find NEW TECH and see if I could buy a small powerful 12 Amp+Vac. BINGO… the Eureka Optima. Great performance, small in stature, light weight, flex-cord & Telesopic Ring Handle.
I was tempted to pay the Xtra $10, $20 and $50 to get a fullsize, but I am soooo glad I did not. This Puppy can suck the matted, dusty areas of my aging wool rugs. It’s cannister is bagless with nice filtration, for my allergies. With easy use connecting hose & attachments… even a motorized brush roller (on/off)… good for carpet or bare floors. Take it from a Do-All Handyman… the Eureka Optima is a 5 Star Winner & a “Best Buy”.

This vacuum cleaner a great sucking power and is easy have to use. It is however built i n plastic. The support of the wheels of my vacuum cleaner are worn after two years of moderate services and with no replacement for them, I’ll have to throw away a perfectly good vacuum cleaner.

I agree with the first post… my situation is almost identical. I love this little thing, it’s got the suck of a wet/dry vac (and the noise almost), but it gets things out of my carpet I never knew existed.

My only complaint is the emptying process, it’s dirty. I have to empty the cannister outside, and also clean the filter outside. When the filter gets clogged, and it does, because it’s so powerful, it won’t suck anymore.

A++ would buy again ;)

I found this little wonder at a Goodwill for $9.00 in brand new condition! I cant believe someone actually GAVE it away. I am so impressed with it. I have hardwood floors and every other vacuum I tried would just blow the dirt around everywhere, not this one. I love how toy can switch the roller on and off. The hand tools are also super powerful. The size is also perfect because i don’t have a whole lot of room to store. The adjustable handle is great! Even my 6 year old son loves to vacuum now!

Good vacuum so far. Cleans well. 18 months. Just bought 6 cartridge replacements for $9.99 each. Filter is not really cleanable. I have wood floors and rugs so I’m happy if I get 4-6 months out of a filter with a filter cleaning every 2 weeks or so. I use a shop vac to clean the filter. Labo intensive. I think next time I might get a vac with bags. Its much easier to just toss out the bag once a month for 2 bucs then to get all dusty de-clogging the filter

(6) Karen says:

We bought this Optima for our fifth wheel trailer for it’s power, compactness and ease of use. It did a wonderful job, so much so that I brought it into the house to use! Unfortunately, now we need belts for it – our certified repair store here has had belts on order for over 4 months!! I can’t even find the model on the Eureka website to order directly. Filters are very expensive, at $15 each, considering the low price we paid for the vacuum itself! I’d reconsider only because of the difficulty in getting parts and cost of the filters.

Jeffrey,

I will try putting a piece of panty hose over filter to reduce time to pick dust out of it.
That should allow air to pass through unhindered.

Horrible I’ve only had the vaccum for about 6 months and both wheel fell off. I have to replace a perfectly good vaccuum because of the wheels.

(11) John and Helga says:

We love the vacuum’s cleaning capability; however, the other components (wheels) are terrible. This is our second vacuum, and again the wheels fell off. The first time was about six months of use, and this time about eight months. Eureka, put some Quality Control and Assurance into the entire vacuum!

I really liked this vacuum when I first got it. It has been 4 months and now I can only get suction out of the hose. Calling the company to get a new one. Not impressed any more.

This vacuum is the is really bad! The WHEELS keep on falling off

(14) Leo says:

Wonderful vacuum, HORRIBLE wheel design. As stated before they fall off/break with the slightest provocation. I am handy with tools but the design leaves you NO options to retrofit with better wheels.
The wheels have plastic rims connected to plastic hubs which “snap” on. The problem is the hub has a slot cut keeper that the wheel snaps onto. This cut breaks off and the wheel can’t be put back on.
Mine did last a while but this design flaw will keep me from ever buying another.

(15) Joe says:

Like others here, I had the wheels fall off after only a short time in use. Otherwise a great vacuum. Too bad. Leo hit the problem with the wheel design square on the head. Eureka ought to be redesigning the faulty part and offering it free to everyone who has been burned by them on this very bad product. Have a Dyson now. Eureka, never again.

(16) andra says:

I love this vacuum! It weighs less than my 4 month old baby and gets every job done! I have used it every day for 6 months now. It’s great on my hardwood, tile, and carpet. I even use it in my car. The handle adjusts to many heights and my personal favorite is the “suction only” option. I can vacuum my small rugs and they don’t get sucked in.

(17) Jodi says:

I hate this vacuum! It is always clogging up. All of the dirt and fibers go directly to the filter. I have to clean out the filter twice! when I use it. To top it off, one of the plastic tips broke off underneath the top that you uscrew and holds the filter in place. I have to clean out the brush roller every time. I will invest in a better vacuum.

(18) george says:

did anyone ever find replacement wheels?
I like it otherwise.

December 17, 2009 at 12:56 pm
(19) Jeff says:

Its not the wheels that break but the plastic hub the wheels snap onto.
With normal use The plastic hub wares to the point after about 18 months that the wheels just come off.

(20) April says:

I just bought this vacuum, because it was on sale, well….so far so good. The wheels haven’t fallen off yet, hopefully not. After I clean the house and do all the vacuuming,I also clean the vacuum itself with a biodegradable solution and do this on a regular basis to make it always look brand new.
