Mopping Question- How Do I Keep My Mop Sanitary?
Saturday September 5, 2009
Our mops are hard working tools in our homes. Ready to be brought out at the first sign of a spill, in entryways and bathrooms, kitchens and hallways, mops keep our floors clean and our homes sanitary. So how do we keep our mops from becoming havens for germs and dirt?

I always rinse my mop really good and then soak it for a couple hours in bleach. It is also a good idea to buy a new mop every few months.
My mother used to keep mops forever in our utility room and we all used to chide my dog for urinating in that room whenever we left. The smell was overwhelming and sickening. Finally my sister walked by the mop and discovered IT was the culprit and not my well trained dog!
Now we insist my mother buy new mops every few weeks rather than keep using the same (soaked in bleach or not)bad smelling thing. You can buy ones for $1 at the DollarTree or the 99 Cents Only stores. For us, it is worth the money.
Oh, yeah. Forgot to mention the ammonia in the bleach is what made it smell like urine which has a high ammonia level.
