How To Vacuum Stairs

I always wanted a two-story house. It was my dream. Square footage didn't matter. Closet space was not a deciding factor. Two stories was a must. Now that I live with two stories, I have to wonder how so much dirt accumulates on the stairs. And stairs aren't exactly simple to clean, unless you enjoy bench pressing a vacuum cleaner down a flight of stairs. Luckily, there are easier ways tovacuum stairs.

Ah, the stairs. I spent 10 years restling the vacuum up and down stairs in over 100 homes. Every set of stairs were different and so were the vacuums. Getting a light weight vac like the Oreck really helps!

Stairs are tricky and sometimes unfortunately there is no one easy solution. For weight reasons you have a couple of options. One is a small hand held vacuum with a beater brush to clean the step and riser section. The problem is the corners and where the step meets the step riser. You need a crevice tool to really clean them well. A canister vacuum with a extra long hose that you can leave at the bottom of the stairs is best.
