As we get ready for a big move for our family, we've been decluttering and packing like crazy. I've been giving out chores for all the kids to work on, even more obscure jobs. One, often overlooked chore, is vacuuming the stairs.

Ah, the stairs. I spent 10 years restling the vacuum up and down stairs in over 100 homes. Every set of stairs were different and so were the vacuums. Getting a light weight vac like the Oreck really helps!
Stairs are tricky and sometimes unfortunately there is no one easy solution. For weight reasons you have a couple of options. One is a small hand held vacuum with a beater brush to clean the step and riser section. The problem is the corners and where the step meets the step riser. You need a crevice tool to really clean them well. A canister vacuum with a extra long hose that you can leave at the bottom of the stairs is best.
