My Aluminum Pots and Pans Are Cloudy and Dark. Can This Be Fixed?

By Sarah Aguirre, About.com

Question: My Aluminum Pots and Pans Are Cloudy and Dark. Can This Be Fixed?
Answer: People choose aluminum pans for their wonderful ability to conduct heat evenly, providing great cooking results. Aluminum pans have their own washing needs though that many people aren’t aware of. Certain foods have minerals in them that, when cooking, will discolor the metal of aluminum pans. Try boiling lemon juice or vinegar inside the aluminum pans for 7-10 minutes. You may also need to scour with a steel wool pad. In some instances a metal cleaner may be needed to fix the color of your aluminum pans. Follow package directions.
