My Stoneware Dish Has Metal Marks On It. How Do I Get Them Off?

By Sarah Aguirre, About.com

Question: My Stoneware Dish Has Metal Marks On It. How Do I Get Them Off?

Answer: Ceramic tableware, a stoneware dish, and serving dishes seem to reveal these marks a lot more often than other dishes. The marks are actually caused by metal flatware or silverware being drawn across a stoneware dish. You'll also see the problem in stoneware or ceramic mugs where a spoon has been stirred and marked the inner surface of the dish with gray grooved lines. Try using a plastic scrubber and some baking soda on the stoneware dish to remove the marks. With a little effort they should come up. While you can’t prevent the marks from happening during mealtimes, you can remember to separate the flatware and ceramic or stoneware dishes during cleanup time, helping to minimize marking.
