10 Week Holiday Planning- Week 6

What To Do In the Weeks Before the Holidays So You'll Be Ready

By Sarah Aguirre, About.com

Week 6 Focus:

Bedrooms For week 6 we're focusing on our own family bedrooms as our main cleaning and organizing focus for the week. Let's face it, we often leave our bedrooms for last. They hold all the stuff we don't want everyone to see. They can easily become glorified storage areas if we're not careful. Learn about cleaning and organizing our bedrooms as we anticipate a wonderful holiday season.

Week 6 Tasks:

Cleaning:
Maintain cleanliness with a 15 Minute Cleanup for each room in your home.
Do intense cleaning in your bedrooms and kid bedrooms with an intense bedroom cleanup.

Organizing:
Pay special attention to organizing your bedrooms to get ready for the holiday season. If you haven't done so already, get rid of the clutter. We often declutter the rooms that guests will use or see without thinkiing about ourselves. We deserve a clean and decluttered bedroom.

Decorating:
Put away any Thanksgiving decorations and begin your Christmas decorating.

Cooking:
Take a moment to jot down observations about the Thanksgiving celebration this year. What worked well? What didn't? Include the wrap-up of your holiday in your holiday organizing notebook so you'll be better prepared for next year.

Scheduling:
Take a moment to update or create a master family calendar. Add in all dates from school, work, church, sports, and activity calendars. Make sure to keep a copy posted in your home and a copy with you at all times. December dates fill up quickly and you don't want to double book your family.

Buying:
Go over your budget before spending money. Update the budget as needed.
Add to a list of presents that need to be purchased. Try to purchase 1/7 of the gifts on your list this week. Make sure you keep track of your purchases and receipts in your holiday organizing notebook.
To make it easier on you, set up a gift wrap station in your home. If you have the space you can make it a whole section of a room. If space is more limited, consider a portable wrapping storage container that can be brought out when needed.
Add to a list of decorating supplies that need to be purchased. Buy any items you can find off of your list at the sales.
Begin to make lists of "homemade gifts" that will be needed and gather supplies.
Include all of your lists in your holiday organizing notebook so that you can add to them or modify them as needed.
Finish filling out the last 1/3 of your holiday cards.
