Stainless steel countertops are easy to maintain. The can stand up to hot pans. Acidic and oily spills aren't a problem for stainless steel. Because stainless steel countertops are usually one piece, there are no seams to harbor food pieces and germs. As long as they are properly cleaned, there won't be any rust, corrosion, or other stains to deal with.

These countertops can be dented and scratched, although light scratches tend to become less noticeable over time, and seem to just be part of the surface of the stainless steel.

Stainless steel smudges and shows fingerprints. Water left to dry on the surface will cause temporary spotting.

Stainless Steel Countertop Cleaning:

For dry cleaning, wipe down the countertop with a microfiber cloth. For wet cleaning. a soft cloth and a little mild dish soap is all that is needed. For occasional tougher cleaning, a mild abrasive can be used. Rinse the surface, and dry thoroughly with a clean, soft, dry towel. Stainless steel cleaners are available that are nice for removing fingerprints and smudges.

Stainless Steel Countertop Maintenance:

For minor scratching, a nylon scouring pad can be used with the grain. Go slowly so that you don't alter the surface more than the surrounding area. Deep scratches will need the help of a professional.
