Definition: A carpet broom is a mechanical tool that is used to pick up crumbs and dirt off of carpet. More commonly called a carpet sweeper, the carpet broom frequently is in the shape of a box that rolls along the floor with a long handle. There is no electrical component to a carpet broom. It works on a system of rollers that cause brushes to turn and flick dirt from the carpet into the carpet broom, where it is held.

Restaurants frequently use carpet brooms because they are nearly silent. Cleanup can happen around other patrons eating without disturbing them.

Carpet brooms often have the ability to adjust the height of the sweeper to accommodate for different lengths and types of carpet.
