Who Should Buy the Hoover Empower?

Homes with significant amounts of carpet will benefit from a decent price and excellent carpet cleaning ability. Homes in need of a variety of tools will love the options the Hoover Empower offers, especially the powered hand tool (one of my favorite features.) Buyers looking for a moderately priced upright vacuum cleaner that is bagless, has HEPA filtration, and other unique options will love the Empower.

Impressive Features for the Hoover Empower

Carpet Cleaning Power

The Empower, true to its Hoover name, really cleans carpet well. The agitator works the carpet nicely and loosens dirt, allowing it to be sucked up easily. Once again, the dirt other models leaves behind is found by the Empower.

HEPA Filtration

The Hoover Empower has a teflon coated HEPA filter that will last for up to three years and remove 100% of dust mites and their eggs. It also removes up to 99.98% of ragweed and common grass pollens.

Hoover Empower and Tools

The Hoover Empower comes with a dusting brush tool and furniture nozzle tool. The crevice tool and extension wand fit inside of each other for storage. The powered hand tool is a great addition and did a fabulous job on upholstery and my carpeted stairs, although it has no storage place on the Empower.

Folding Handle

The folding handle on the Hoover Empower makes storage so much easier. With the Empower you have the option of storing the vacuum cleaner in a closet with clothes hanging above or in other places where a fully upright vacuum cleaner wouldn't be able to be stored.

What Is Lacking From the Hoover Empower?

Brush Roll Turnoff Switch

There isn't one, which renders the Hoover Empower useless for my hardwood floors. The Empower does okay on vinyl and other types of floors where scratching isn't a concern, but isn't a great option for marble, granite, and hardwood.

Hush Mode

Maybe my expectations were too high, but the hush part of the hush mode of the Hoover Empower was barely more quiet. Switching the Hoover Empower to hush mode did quiet the unit, but the only things in my home to notice the difference where my son's pet frogs. They normally jump when a vacuum cleaner is turned on, but didn't with the Hush Mode. On an up note, however, the Hoover Empower is not a loud vacuum cleaner in its own right. I found it quiet compared to other full size and even lightweight uprights.

Maintenance and Cleaning of the Hoover Empower

The Hoover Empower is a bagless vacuum cleaner, with three filters to clean and dust bin to empty. I found that the pre filter(the small metal screen filter) needed to be cleaned often to maintain the suction power. The Hepa filter should not be washed or brushed. Tap the HEPA filter housing on the inside of the trash can to knock of dirt. Be sure not to hit the white pleated part of the filter, damaging it.

Maintenance For the Hoover Empower

Belt Replacement

Replace the belt if it becomes stretched, cut or broken. This will need to be checked at least seasonally, and if there are strange sounds coming from the Hoover Empower.

Filter Maintenance

The Pre filter will need to be brushed, washed, and dried. The Hepa Filter may need to have dirt knocked from it by tapping the filter housing. Replace after three years. The final filter may need to be washed and dried thoroughly. If it is ripped it too will need replacing.

Headlamp

If the headlamp burns out, a replacement can be ordered from Hoover.

Brush Roll

The brush roll may need to be replace when bristle are worn down or break off. Keep the brush roll free of debris and strings. Make sure you turn off and unplug the Hoover Empower before checking or touching the brush roll.

Bottom Line for the Hoover Empower

The Hoover Empower is a nice vacuum cleaner with a lot of options people will enjoy and find useful. It is moderately priced for the depth of features with a suggested retail price around $150 dollars, and comes in colors Pageant Blue, Coral Orange, Calypso Green and a plainer Metallic finish. For carpet cleaning, it's one of the best in its price range. It offers compactness without sacrifing options and quality.

Wow, Member lacalvert

I don't normally leave reviews, however, after reading the other 4 I thought I should say something. I've owned my Empower since 2008. IT'S GREAT! If the carpet isn't firmly stuck to the floor the vacuum would suck it up. As for corners, this thing is AMAZING. The corners of the vacuum work just as well as doing the regular floor. I've had to replace the belt numerous times because of the wrong things being vacuumed (my fault entirely). They are easy to change. The whole vacuum is easy to take apart and easy to put back together. I have pets and I vacuum anything that is on the floor so I do encounter clogs and have to get them out of the hose. No big deal. If I cleaned properly I wouldn't have this problem. The one down side I see is this vacuum is not good for tile type floors as you can't turn off the brush. No bid deal, sweep then vacuum up the pile:)
